Awards: First Prize for watercolor, Jessie Dow, 1932 & 1934. Member: Royal Canadian Acad. Arts (assoc. member); Montreal Arts Club. Work: Commissions: mural (oil), Trans Canada Telephone Co., Expos 1967. Comments: Preferred media: watercolors. Positions: illustrator, Brigden's Ltd., Winnipeg, 1925-28; illustrator, Rice Studio, NYC, 1928-29; illustrator, Rapid Grip & Battens, Montreal, 1930-58. You have an original watercolor by Henry John Simpkins. He worked with many different subjects in his career. He is not known for his renderings of boats and nautical scenes. The painting you have is well done and I was able to compare it to others that have sold at auction in the past.
