WhatsItWorthToYou.com
Date/Era/Period: 1957 (?)
WhatsItWorthToYou.com
Description: Jailhouse Rock movie poster Approximate size 26" w by 40.25" high (it is framed so it's hard to tell the exact size). There is a white border about an inch thick all the way around the print. It has the color bleed lines from each color in the corner, and some of the colors in some spots seem to be a little off-center. It appears to be on a parchment-type paper (not high gloss). Along the bottom, it reads "8259 COPYRIGHT 1957 LOEW'S INCORPORATED LITHO IN U.S.A. PROPERTY OF NATIONAL SCREENSERVICE CORP. LICENSED FOR DISPLAY IN CONNECTION WITH THE EXHIBITION OF THIS PICTURE AT YOUR THEATRE. MUST BE RETURNED IMMEDIATELY THEREAFTER. 57/533"

Appraiser Comments: "Jailhouse Rock" was issued in 1957 as an Elvis Presley vehicle. This was Elvis' first big dramatic singing role.

Your poster is an original, issued in 1957, according to the copyright information. The numbers 57/533 indicate that this is the 533rd poster design issued by this company in 1957. The size of your poster is known as a one-sheet. This is typically the poster mounted in viewing boxes in and around the movie theater.

You describe the paper as being "parchment type" and not glossy, so it sounds as if you have the linen-backed version. These have a market value slightly lower than the ones on glossy paper, but they are still very collectible and command high prices.

I also noticed that this posteris not matted. You need a mat to keep the glass from touching the poster, as it will eventually lift the color off the poster. You need to have it re-framed and matted, using only acid-free materials.

Since I am unable to examine this item in person, it is assumed for the purpose of this appraisal to be a 1957 linen-backed one sheet for the film "Jailhouse Rock", in excellent condition, with no flaws whatsoever. The values given below are based on these assumptions.
