| Appraiser Comments: | Hi there and thank you for your request for appraisal. This Faberge egg is one of a series made by Theo Faberge. There were 750 made, ( you did not mention what the edition number of this is, it should be documented somewhere with a -/750 reference to indicate which number this is in the run. The egg was made in 1993. The series itself was produced between 1984 and 2010. The egg is not, unfortunately, solid gold. It is actually sterling silver embelished with 24k gold .( the Faberge company refers to it as " enriched "with gold ) The actual amount of gold is not recorded . Depending on where you are located and how often these come up for sale are the determining factors in the values. There were only 750 made, and they are not sold often. There is some talk of a reissue of the series because it was so popular, and if, in fact that happens, then the earliest issues will be the most valuable. This is a brand new item in comparison to original Faberge items, and while they are wonderful, they in no way compare to the original eggs which are worth much much more for obvious reasons . The values below are the median values for this egg, and is based on current prices as seen in venues which specialise in contemporary fine art collectiibles. Values do vary from between $ 6,000.00 to $14,000.00 replacement or retail value . They are not on the open market and that does make a difference . The values can only be based on collectors selling prices. Wholesale values are in general approximately one third of the retail . The values also differ with each egg, since some are far more elaborate than others and some are set with precious and semi precious gems. There are some private collectors offering their complete collections as well as individual pieces and the values below are based on those prices. This is an amazing gift and it has been a pleasure for me to appraise this for you today. Valerie Hammond |
